Days of Heaven (Terrence Malick, 1978)

Days of Heaven, Terrence Malick's second feature following Badlands, is one of the most beautifully shot films I have ever seen. Just extraordinary. It would be 20 years before he released he released his next feature, The Thin Red Line, which also puts up a strong case. Can't wait for The Tree of Life.

Here are some screenshots from the film. Definitely worth checking out.

  1. I'm looking forward to The Tree Of Life as well, I hope it's better than The New World...

Days of Heaven is a really beautiful film, the story fell a bit flat in my opinion, but the cinematography and the Morricone score were excellent.

  2. I enjoyed The New World but I admit, not as much as his first three features. The story in Days of Heaven was a bit flat, and the performances not real great, but it's the visuals and the score that make up for that.

  3. Glad we agree :)

I'm also glad you enjoyed The Thin Red Line, I think it's wonderful but loads of people seem to hate it, I can't understand it...I actually thought it was better than Saving Private Ryan.

Badlands is my favourite of Malick's though.

  4. I have always loved The Thin Red Line better than Ryan. After watching Days of Heaven i'm going to re-watch the rest of Malick's films in preparation for The Tree of Life. I think its release is scheduled for May, unless it is pushed back again...
